First Update in Over 10 Months, Google Toolbar PageRank Has Been Updated

First Update in Over 10 Months, Google Toolbar PageRank Has Been Updated

Just a Few months ago matt cuts declared that he would be surprised to know an update to Google Toolbar PageRank by the end of Current Year. Despite him having said that we are here in December Google just updated their Google PageRank values this morning.
It is at all times a huge deal in the SEO community with Google releases this type of update for PageRank is the most openly visible metric available to decide the value of a website or blog based on how many quality links(high PR and related) are pointing to it. This December 2013 update is of particular importance because no one knows that it’s coming.

The last one update to Google Toolbar PageRank was back in February and support for it has been released on many browsers. This lead many in the SEO (Search engine optimization) industry to take a risk that Google was phasing it out. Today’s update saws that Google Toolbar PageRank is still Very much alive, at least for now.
Since Google PageRank is only for many elements taken into account by Google’s search engine algorithm it’s not more important to obsess over it too much Conversely, Google continuing to update it shows it still has value in determining the amount and global quality of links pointing to your website/Blog.
You can hear Matt Cutts explain a bit more about Google PageRank and how Google goes about more updating it in this video.
Has your website/Blog’s PageRank Changed since this morning’s update? Let’s me know by the post your comment below.

Report: Internet-Free Twitter Service Coming to International Markets

Report: Internet-Free Twitter Service Coming to International Markets

Twitter will soon be available to some international mobile users without Internet access, according to Reuters.
Twitter is partnering with U2opia, a Singapore-based mobile applications provider, to bring aspects of its Twitter service to users on phones that don't have Internet capabilities. Users will need to type in a short code and will then have access to trending topics on Twitter from their respective areas.

A Twitter spokesperson confirmed the partnership to Mashable but did not comment on how many international users will have access to the new service. According to Reuters, users will only have access to trending topics, meaning the majority of tweets will not be viewable. It does not appear users will be able to send tweets using U2opia's application.
Facebook has a similar partnership with U2opia, as does Google Talk. Fonetwish, the company's product that allows users to access Facebook (and soon Twitter) without the Internet, only works with text-based messages, meaning pictures and videos won't be viewable. U2opia claims that more than half a million users from around the world access Facebook each month without Internet.
U2opia did not immediately respond to Mashable's request for comment.
Twitter has more than 218 million users worldwide, almost 80% of which reside outside the United States. Much like Facebook plans to add its next billion users from emerging markets like South America and Asia, Twitter hopes to do the same.
In Twitter's S-1, which was filed ahead of its IPO in early November, the company listed a handful of foreign countries as targets for increased user growth. Markets like Argentina and South Africa were highlighted as areas where user growth should, and most likely will, eclipse growth from the United States. Making even parts of the service available to users with older phones is a step toward accomplishing that.
The new Internet-free version of Twitter will be available in Q1 of 2014, according to Reuters.

Google+ Auto Awesome Turns Your Holiday Photos Into Twinkling GIFs

Google+ Auto Awesome Turns Your Holiday Photos Into Twinkling GIFs

Google is taking your holiday photos to the next level — a much more twinkly level.
The Auto Awesome feature on Google+ was updated on Thursday to add sparkle to photos that feature items that could use an extra twinkle or two — think Christmas trees, holiday lights, or a Menorah. Images that feature snow will be updated so that it looks like snow is actually falling over the picture.

Users' original images uploaded to Google+ will not actually be altered. Instead, Google will automatically create a new image in the form of a GIF with the necessary updates and send users a notification on Google+ when their new image is ready for distribution.
It's unclear how long this Auto Awesome feature be in effect — Google did not immediately respond to Mashable's request for comment. Regardless, the new feature is certainly a fun way to enhance your holiday pictures, and maybe encourage a few additional photo uploads.

14 Stunning Photographs That Bridge Past and Present

14 Stunning Photographs That Bridge Past and Present

Kerényi Zoltán has turned his camera into a time machine. The Hungarian photographer and architect uses vintage photos to create a bridge between the Budapest of the past and the Budapest of the present.
In the series "Ablak a Múltra" (translating to "Window to the Past"), Zoltán overlays black and white images from the website Fortepan onto his own images with a modern backdrop.

The subjects of the images vary from kids and parents playing in the street to transportation, managing to seamlessly fill present-day stadiums with the ghosts of history and restructure broken-down buildings to their glory of the past.
Zoltán says he has been working on the project for more than two years, but the images only recently went viral after being featured on Reddit. He tells Mashable that the idea was triggered by simply being fascinated with old pictures of his hometown.
Check out the beautiful pictures above and see more on his Facebook page.

With the change of the seasons comes a host of other changes: a move to a new place, a vacation away from home or perhaps a landmark life event like a graduation.

The pictures selected by our guest curator, McKenna Ewen, each capture a different aspect of change.
Whether it's the change of the sky in an approaching storm or the transformation of a street from sidewalk to art exhibit, these stunning images show changes both subtle and dramatic.

How To Use LinkedIn To Promote Your Professional Services

How To Use LinkedIn To Promote Your Professional Services

LinkedIn is one of the best ways to promote your professional products and services because, quite simply, it was created just for that. Well, it was created as a networking tool, but in the world of business networking, a little self-promotion and sales are never far behind.
No matter the industry you're in, if your livelihood and business revolve around selling professional services, LinkedIn is the network of your dreams. And no, it isn't just a resume placeholder, nor is it a place only for recruiters. With a few little tweaks, and a customized LinkedIn strategy, you could be sitting pretty while the leads and sales come a' knocking.
Sounds good, right? If you need a little more sweetener, let me list a few statistics that might change your mind.

How To Use LinkedIn To Promote Your Professional Services

1. Optimize Your Profile
Your profile is very important, as it is the first thing people will see when they come across you. If you have optimized it well —and by "well," I mean for your industry—you're likely to see an increase in people viewing your profile. If your experience and skill set is of interest to the viewer, you are one step closer to building a business relationship.
2. Visualize Your Profile
Many businesses and professionals are in a visual industry. Until recently LinkedIn was very text heavy. But with the visualization of the social web, LinkedIn also became more visual. Given that we're constantly looking for ways to stand out from the other 200 million users on LinkedIn, the use of visual content can turn your once boring black and white profile into one designer-friendly profile, with a rainbow of colors. Plus, it gives you the opportunity to showcase the work you've done in the past.
3. Share, Share, Share
The number one way to be social is to share. I think it is most valuable to have your own content to share. (Cue in the "blog" drum roll.) You can share within your company page, your personal profile and groups. When you share content that drives readers back to your own site, you are not only sharing your expertise and building your authority with the network, you are also increasing the odds of gaining a lead.
4. Connect & Expand
LinkedIn is a social network, so be social. That means connecting with people who are interested in the services you provide and begin to build relationships there.
5. Cross Promote
LinkedIn, and social media in general, are about building relationships. If you want others to help you promote your services, it's probably a good idea to start promoting theirs.
6. Be Thoughtful
Your LinkedIn strategy will be one of the most powerful lead generation tools out there. If you want it to work, you must think about your audience and who you want to connect with. Talk to them, they are your target.
7. Be Consistent
There is nothing worse than a social media ghost. Don't promote heavy, introduce yourself to a lot of people and then just run away. That isn't going to get you anywhere. In fact, you'll just loose the interest you garnered.
8. Be Personalized
If you are reaching out to someone to let them know what you do, make sure it fits what they do. Oh, and make sure you address them by their name. :)
9. Advertise
LinkedIn advertising is really effective, because it's highly targeted. Test it out and decide whether it's a good fit for you.
10. Update Your Company Page
Your company page allows you to promote your services and products to it. Here is my advice on that topic.

Google Penguin Update 3 Released, Impacts 0.3% Of English-Language Queries

Google Penguin Update 3 Released, Impacts 0.3% Of English-Language Queries

Google’s Matt Cutts used Twitter this afternoon to announce that Google is launching the latest “data refresh” of its Penguin spam-fighting algorithm today and that it will affect searches across multiple languages.
Including the original Penguin algorithm launch in late April, this is the third update, so we’re calling it Penguin 3 and avoiding the previous 1.1, 1.2, etc. naming scheme, just as we’ve done with the Panda updates.

Penguin Releases So Far

Here’s the list so far, showing when each Penguin update came out, the percentage of English-languages queries it was said to impact (other languages are also impacted, but we’re using English as a consistent baseline):

Some Details On Penguin 3

Cutts, chief of Google’s spam team, posted about the Penguin update in a series of tweets. The first said that a Penguin data refresh is on its way and that about 0.3 percent of English-language queries will be “noticeably affected.”

Weather report: Penguin data refresh coming today. 0.3% of English queries noticeably affected. Details: http://goo.gl/AF5kt
Google Releases Penguin Update 2

Google Releases Penguin Update 2

No matter that it’s late Friday night on the start of a three-day holiday weekend in the U.S., Google has just pushed out the first update to its recent webspam-fighting Penguin algorithm. Let’s call it Penguin 2.
Google’s Matt Cutts announced the news a short time ago on Twitter, calling it a “data refresh” that impacts less than one-tenth of a percent of English-language searches.

Minor weather report: We pushed 1st Penguin algo data refresh an hour ago. Affects <0.1% of English searches. Context: http://goo.gl/4f7Pq
Although webmasters and SEOs have been speculating consistently in recent weeks that Google had already pushed out a Penguin update (or several), Cutts specifically says this is the first update since Penguin launched back on April 24th.
Google has described Penguin as an algorithm change that’s aimed at webspam and, more specifically, “sites that we believe are violating Google’s quality guidelines.”
Penguin led to immediate outcries from across the SEO industry, with many questioning if it made search results better or worse. Because it’s an algorithmic change, Google said it wouldn’t consider reconsideration requests made via Webmaster Central, but it did setup a form for webmasters to use if they believe Penguin had hit their sites by mistake.
Even though tonight’s update affects a small percentage of English searches, that form is still online.
For more about the Penguin update, see the articles listed below.
Postscript From Danny Sullivan: In the comments below, you’ll see some people wondering if they haven’t recovered from this update, does that means they’ll never recover and should start over. I’d wait a bit longer before that.
After Penguin 1 came out, Google said that anyone hit by that had been penalized. But soon after, there were examples of sites that didn’t appear to be spamming Google but which yet had traffic drops.
A few of these might have been false positives, but it’s far more reasonable to assume that when Google wiped out wide swathes of links, some sites that used to benefit from those links lost credit. In other words, they weren’t penalized — they just didn’t get as much credit as before.
I’m still trying to get Google to confirm this or not, if everyone hit by Penguin 1.0 was really penalized or if there were some who just don’t get as much credit as before, because others were penalized. Stay tuned.
Postscript 2: See also First Report Of Google Penguin Recovery.
Postscript 3 (Oct. 5, 2012): Originally, we’d called this story “Google Releases Penguin Update 1.1,” but it’s since been changed to be Penguin 2.
We’ve begun numbering Panda updates sequentially (Panda 1, 2, 3….) rather than as “versions” with “point numbers” (Panda 2.2, Panda 3.5….) because it’s too difficult to tell what’s a “major” update from a “minor” one.
